Releasing 4th edition of The Upgraded Target Approach!

I’m excited to share the 4th edition of The Upgraded Target Approach, a model of the ICF Core Competencies I first crafted in 2013, updated in 2015 and again in 2020.

I initially crafted this model in response to questions I was being asked by coaches I was mentoring, who were seeking to better understand each competency in order to confidently use them to develop their coaching presence and coaching skills to their next level.

This is not an official ICF model, instead what I’ve learned from mentoring coaches to prepare for their ACC, PCC and MCC credentials. And what I’ve learned from being a continuous ICF Assessor for all three credential levels since 2005.

This latest version aligns with updates released by ICF in September 2025. ICF states these updates are valid for 5 – 7 years.

The Upgraded Target Approach centers around an audio visual presentation where I explain differences between the types of core competencies and how they flow, to more easily integrate in to your coaching style, no matter being new or more experienced coach.
